USA: Ringling Bros. stellt den Betrieb ein

Das Ende des größten Circus der Welt: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey – “The Greatest Show on Earth” stellt nach 146 Jahren den Betrieb ein. Dies gab Kenneth Feld, der CEO von Feld Entertainment, heute bekannt. Im Mai soll bei Ringling der letzte Vorhang fallen. Seit 10 Jahren seien die Ticketverkäufe zurückgegangen. Außerdem sollen nach dem Verzicht auf Elefanten in den Shows die Absätze nochmals deutlich gefallen sein. Mit der Entfernung der Elefanten reagierte Ringling auf zahlreiche Proteste von Tierrechtlern.

“The decision to end the circus tours was made as a result of high costs coupled with a decline in ticket sales, making the circus an unsustainable business for the company. Following the transition of the elephants off the circus, the company saw a decline in ticket sales greater than could have been anticipated.” – Kenneth Feld

Die zwei Ringling-Shows “Circus Xtreme” und “Out Of This World” touren noch bis Ende Mai durch die Sportarenen der USA.
